Certificate of insurance

Proof of coverage, checked against the request.

Send us the certificate holder details and the insurance requirements. We verify the active policy, review the request, and explain when an endorsement or policy change is needed.

Request a Certificate

A certificate summarizes coverage. It does not change it.

The policy and its endorsements control coverage. A certificate gives another party a concise record of the insurance in force on the date it is issued.

Policy details

The certificate identifies the insurer, policy type, policy number, effective dates, and the limits shown by the active policy.

Certificate holder

It records the person or organization asking for proof and the mailing details supplied with the request.

Requested wording

We compare the requested wording with the policy. The certificate cannot grant coverage that the policy and endorsements do not provide.

Standard proof or a contract-specific request

The right path depends on what the other party is asking you to show.

Standard certificate

Use this when a landlord, client, lender, or general contractor needs evidence of the policies and limits currently in force.

Contract-specific request

Send the contract or sample certificate when it asks for additional insured status, waiver of subrogation, primary and noncontributory wording, completed operations, or special notice language. We check whether the policy supports it.

What to send us

A complete request prevents back and forth and lets the broker check the requirement against the right policy.

Certificate holder

The legal name, mailing address, and contact person for the organization requesting proof.

Contract or sample

Attach the insurance section of the contract or the sample certificate the other party supplied.

Job details

Include the project, location, client, and deadline so we can match the request to the right work.

Special requirements

Call out additional insured, waiver, primary wording, completed operations, or any specific form requested.

How a certificate request works

  1. 01

    Send the request

Give us the certificate holder details, contract language, and any sample document.

  2. 02

    We check the policy

A licensed broker compares the request with the active policy and its endorsements.

  3. 03

    We resolve any gap

If the request needs coverage or wording that is not in place, we explain the option before anything is represented.

  4. 04

    You receive the documents

We send the certificate and any supporting endorsements that apply to the approved request.

Certificate questions

Does a certificate of insurance change my policy?

No. A certificate reports information from the policy. Coverage changes require the insurer to issue or approve the applicable policy change or endorsement.

Is a certificate holder automatically an additional insured?

No. Certificate holder and additional insured are different roles. Additional insured status must be supported by the policy or an endorsement.

Why do you need the contract or sample certificate?

It lets us see the exact insurance requirement, identify wording the policy may not support, and avoid issuing a document that overstates coverage.

Can I request a certificate before buying a policy?

A certificate can only report coverage that is in force. If you still need coverage, start a quote and we will shop the requirement with you.

Need a certificate for an active Menlo policy?

Send the holder details and the contract requirement. We will check the policy and return the documents that apply.
